R.I.P. Wendy Richard

“Miss Brahms, Are You Free?” were words asked by Wendy Richard’s co-workers on the hit British television show “Are You Being Served?”. Richard played the pretty, ditzy, Cockney accented Grace Brothers employee Miss Shirley Brahms in the comedy which ran from the early seventies until the mid eighties. I’d watch these reruns on PBS everyday when I was younger and it introduced me to the hilarity of British humour.
After a long struggle with cancer, the funny lady died at a hospital in Westminster London yesterday.
Below is a clip from “Are You Being Served?” and Wendy speaks in all her Cockneyed glory around 3:15.
